all the world's a stage

Martini took these shots of me last July, when there was actually still a bit of a chill in the air. Needless to say, this transitioned into a good fall outfit as well. Those of you in Beantown may recognize the building painting behind me—it's by the American Apparel in Harvard Square. And, if you're wondering what that mini-portrait is doing to the right, it's because I can't bring myself to post a humongous, honking photo of my face for all the world to see. Somehow it seems overly indulgent...and maybe TMI?

Outfit: H&M sheer ruffle top, F21 trench, AA silver leggings, vintage sheer pants, We Love Colors socks, Kork-Ease platforms, Tibetan shop scarf.

I like my Chucks classic, be them in white, black, navy or red. Preferably with smudges of grime and a few, hard-earned rips in the canvas, mind you. Bubble gum pink and graphic Cons, on the other hand, rub me the wrong way; they seem to go against the whole self-contradicting traditionalist/rebel image, which is the very thing the brand prides itself on. But, to each her own.

Vena Cava's newly launched, limited edition collaboration with Converse (PRODUCT) RED, however, makes me reassess my premises. Amidst the fashion duo's signature Havasu print are polka dots and shoutouts to food (nachos, anyone?). And, unlike other mass-produced hand-illustrated kicks by the brand, these kicks actually bear some semblance to what I doodled on my own lowtops while waiting for my mom to pick me up from school. I guess that's why I like them, then—the very act of scratching out heartfelt declarations, song lyrics and teenage hieroglyphics is an inherent part of Converse's iconic history and hence is in line with my reasons for being so inclined towards the brand.
