five card stud
Take our little fashion cornucopia of the blogosphere: One person buys a cool item, another picks up on it, and soon enough everyone's coveting and clamoring for that item. Other times, the discovery of an item happens in tandem by multiple individuals. Whatever the case, the trend spreads through our midst like a virus, until we're all infected with a desperate yearning for, say, faded denim cutoffs with the pockets hanging out or those Balenciaga gladiator knockoffs by Nine West, a.k.a the Heech.
Though not likely to reach fashion blogorium-wide contamination, the Tripp NYC studded boots have taken over yet another fashion immune system. First Lulu of Everybody is Ugly snatched up a pair from Trash & Vaudeville in NYC. Lauren from Fops and Dandies then caught whiff of them. And, finally, because whatever fever Lauren gets I am likely to get as well (and vice versa), I got my own set from Hot Topic. The fashion blogging network strikes again!
So. How to make them work without being a goth derivative? Initially I went for the casual sexy vibe that is so popular nowadays.

Not bad, though I think I could have Vogue Paris-ed it up a bit more. I have no qualms with effortless style, but this outfit could have used some edgy, Melanie Huynh-esque oomph.
Next, I dashed across the style border for the tried-yet-true, soft/hard contrast, a la Lauren's method.

This is more like it, for me at least. Fuchsia, pale pink and creme ribbon versus black leather and silver studs. *sigh of pleasure*
Though I'm more than content to wear the boots in these two manners, I felt the impulse to explore what unique aspect I could bring to the table. Guesses, anyone? Yup, you got that right: My preppy bookworm outlook.

*sigh of geek pleasure*
(1) Rogan for Target black/white striped organic linen T-shirt, Wet Seal navy blue tube top as skirt. (2) H&M pale pink babydoll dress, H&M fuchsia pleated dress, AA black leggings, Twelve by Twelve creme ribbon necklace. (3) Alloy blue/white gingham shirt, APC pumpkin corduroy skirt, H&M natural-tone flower pin, Gap brown leather belt.

i love how you put the blogosphere into perspective as far as trends, its so true. i appreciate the boots, would totally rock them and think that you rock them ridiculously well! you have such amazing style!
They look fantastic on you! Alas I have short stumpy legs so they would look terrible on me. That's one trend I'll leave in the fashion blogosphere...
I love posts like this! Okay, I love them when the poster knows what they're doing -- which goes without saying here.
Yes indeed, these are each really great, really strong uses of those boots. What I particularly love about the last one is something I like to call the "non sequitur accessory." Matching by not matching, fitting by not fitting. A primary tool of stylish women everywhere.
Squeal! I was with you when you bought the flower in Geek Chic Look #3. Gosh, you're such a stunner! I am bowled over by Look #2. I've never seen anyone rock something like that with such confidence and grace. The boots (and I'd never thought I'd say this about a Hot Topic item!) look great on all the ladies but you wear them especially well!
omgd #2 #2 #2 #2. i'm sorry, i can't see anything but #2.
#2 is sooooooooooo aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh
You look like a super-hero in the second photo set! I can totally see what you mean by trends infecting the blogosphere at a rapid pace. It was so hard to turn away from those Nine West sandals. But I'm glad I did. No sense jumping into a crowded bandwagon.
Wow, look 2 is divine!
Oh yum; they are a seriously sexy pair of boots!
You rock them. I think they look so much better on you too than they do in just the picture advertising them.
ah you got them too! have been following lulu and lauren's outfits with these. i'm pretty tempted myself.
i am completely in awe of the second look. quite amazing.
You three should start your own dance company with those boots.
I love them with the fuschia cape thingy!
great outfits. you pull them off so well!
These are the classic item I would never had look at before seeing Lauren's and yours outfits. They look stunning with everything!
so amazing! how much were those shoes??

I've loved boots like these since trekking down to Zipper Head on South St. from the Philly suburbs back in high school - but alas, Tripp has never made my size! So I'll admire them on you and Lauren and Lulu until I find a similar size 5 in some obscure shop somewhere - whereupon I'll paint the shiny studs with matte black or grey nail polish to make them more stealth-punk and appropriate for my work.
And aren't you glad you ended up getting that APC cord skirt?
The second outfit is seriously awesome.
The boots look awesome each way. And the last photograph just reminds me why I love tough shoes so much, you look like a geek who'll kick the school bully's arse if they so much as look at her the wrong way :)
the studs on the shoes look awsome--and i love all your outfits! the boots blend in perfectly with all of them, and still make a statement
You're like a punk rock librarian in those boots!
ordinarily I am not into the tough studded boot look, but you dress them up and make them so chic. I especially love the last outfit, so unexpected!
Love these boots, and you've paired them with some great items!
I totally am digging these!! Hot Topic ehhh? Haven't looked around there in soooo long...As an aside, I quite like the Rogan for target stuff...
these are all so lovely! but i like the first one the best. you pull these shoes off so well, no matter how you wear them
I'm jealous that you somehow manage to not look stubby in those boots! I love the casual toughness of the first look and how you used a tube top as a skirt - I'll have to try that someday. I'm not sure how you could wear the 2nd outfit in real life, though it's certainly interesting to look at.
OK, second outfit is killer. I'd go with that one. Nice work!
You look fab. All the outfits work!
flawless, and you are beautiful too!

The boots look great on you!

I love the second look!
It's funny how that happens, I think we all are overly influenced by each other!
You are totally right, when I see something on someone else that looks excellent I start yearning for that same thing.
I was just searching high and low on hot topic today for a pleather jacket featured in Elle.
I absolutely love your 3 takes on the look- especially the book worm. I'm quite partial to gingham.
that first outfit is some kick ass outfit girl!! i love the combination of plain T shirt + plain skirt + killer boots :D
sofisticated
Amazing boots!!

Haha, I love the way you write, it's so true what you say (the faded denim jeans with the pockets hanging out..).
Anyway, you really make those shoes work, they look so hard to pull off, but you look great!
These boots are currently on sale on the Hot Topic website! $30!!!
I've ordered mine just this minute.
