so-en...vious
Slowly but surely, I am catching up on my November New York shopping trip goodies. Of course, the ever-prompt Fops and Dandies managed to get hers up in record time, but I cannot move nearly as fast. Thank you for bearing with the dawdling turtle that I am. And now, for your viewing pleasure, are some pics from the December 2007 issue of So-En. As I mentioned earlier, So-En is Japan's first fashion magazine; I grabbed with my cupcaked-sticky fingers my own copy from Kinokuniya in NYC.
This editorial was simply named "Accessory". To some of you, this may be nothing special, but I'm still enrolled in Accessories 101 at Fashion University (FU, for short....). We in this course are just learning how to don adornment without looking like we fell into the clearance vat at Claire's Accessories. These looks give me hope that one day I, too, will be able-accessoried.

I'm in the same class too :) I need to start accessorising more and appropriately to dress up my outfits especially on those hot hot days when i can't layer - for some reason, i always feel under dressed without a jacket on/ without layering...
oh you were kidding about the class! i was like, damn, where does she find the time to do this?
that said, i need to get a copy of this issue! i love accessories. i actually looked through it the other day, and i was like, hmm maybe i'll get this. but i caught up browsing back issues, and i ended up not getting anything at all. based on my hasty review, i think the november issue is the best.
Soon I shall travel to NY, and soon I will be bounty-laden. And more than likely I will blog about it.
Does that bookstore sell Korean magazines? Or do you know anywhere you can get them?
thomas, they dont sell korean magazines, but you can get them on 32nd street, in this shop that's near han ah reum (the mags will be in the window). you could also go to flushing, there are some good korean bookstores there.
oh i forgot to mention, they are really expensive!!! so-en is 7.75 or something, but an issue of ceci will set you back $20 or so.
Evie: oh, which professor do you have? ;) i actually only like to accessorize when i'm more bundled up; when it's hot out, i like to be minimal...so if you think where i used to live, you'll know why i'm so weak with accessories....
Lauren: seriously? how long did it take you to catch on? the november issue is by far the best (bestest, most-est editorials!!!), but the december issue isn't bad. the nice thing about this accessories section is that it's followed up with closeups of groups of items, like buttons, pins and trimmings. great for inspiration.
Thom: lucky you! fops and dandies is surely the best resource for the insider scoop on nyc, but i'll bet you already know that ;) i think kinokuniya is japanese bookstore and ONLY a japanese bookstore, but you have a whole koreatown in nyc (again, ask fops and dandies).... bon voyage!
Lauren: you're so fast, you managed to reply to MY commenters faster than i can! i was chugging away on my reply to you three (evie, you and thom) and you sweep in there with an answer. well, if i couldn't win points on speed, at least i get points for being correct: "fops and dandies is surely the best resource for the insider scoop on nyc".
haha sorry about that!! i felt a little guilty for hijacking your comments.
it took me a LONG TIME to catch on. sigh. i thought i was being very practical the way i was winnowing down the pile. i started with the september issues, became disappointed, and then went to themes. i mean, the kawaii theme sounds promising, right? it was so meh. the november is definitely packed with editorial-y content, where even the ads look like editorials. i guess i was lucky i picked up the right one when i was in korea!
i'm with professor daniel holloway :p
we're opposites on this then. i forget to accessorise when i bundle up (not very often then unless i'm traveling :)). but wait... i forget to do so when i'm not bundled up as well... my reply is going in circles.. i'm just gonna stick to my original comment. i need to accessorise more...
Danka!
